Do you ever sit on your couch and stare in utter disgust at the mess? Yeah. Me too. Staring in disgust is so much easier than actually doing anything that needs done. Sometimes the smallest tasks can seem daunting. So where do you find motivation to get going?? Asking for a friend….only the friend is me. We’ve all been there right? Right?! Overwhelmed. Unmotivated. And frustrated.

I have discovered that I like to make to-do lists. Don’t tell anyone, but sometimes I’ll add a task I’ve already done just so I can cross it off. It’s motivation from past me to current me. And now it’s our little secret. Productivity is the best motivator. Especially when you just really don’t wanna. The great thing about a to-do list is that when you see it all compiled in one place, it’s easier to see what task is important or what task is going to take longer than another. Then, for example, you can start laundry and pick a second task like vacuuming while the laundry is going. Now you’re doing TWO things at once! Go you! Now, mark it off that list and watch the tasks shrink away one by one.

Another thing I love about a good to-do list is how easy it is to put together. I can use my chalkboard in the kitchen, use the notes app in my phone, write on an actual notepad…I could go on but I think you get the point. I like to lay in bed and start a list in my phone for the next day because I suffer from “mom-nesia” and my memory is at peak when I’m trying to sleep. Naturally.

Do you have mom-nesia too? That moment when you put the laundry in the dryer and don’t start it because someone needs a bandaid? Or you forget a trash bag because you have to open a snack? Yep. Train of thought derails and there are sometimes no survivors. BUT if I put it on my to-do list…guess who still gets it done. Mom.

Don’t forget that sometimes super mom needs a hand too. And yes. You’re a super mom. You’re doing your best. And quite frankly, you rock.

What do you do to motivate yourself? Do you have any tips to share with a fellow busy mom? Let me know in the comments!
