If you haven’t tried air frying hot dogs, you’re missing out! They’re so good air fried! I decided to take it up a notch and marinated them like I do before I throw them on the grill in the summertime, and they were even better! The air fryer gives that smoky grill flavor, without having to stand outside in the winter at a grill. You can throw these together and let the spices meld together, or you can throw them on in as you make it. They’re good either way. I do recommend a pinch of brown sugar thrown into the sauce to help make a nice glaze in the air fryer. I have tried it with and without and the glaze sticks much better to the hotdog with the brown sugar added. If you’re trying to cut out the sweetness or extra calories, you can just skip that optional step.

Ingredients:

  • 12 hot dogs
  • 1/4-1/3 cup of BBQ sauce
  • 1 Tbsp of mustard
  • 1 teaspoon of Kinder’s buttery burger blend spice, or a spice blend to your liking

Step 1:

Slice the hot dogs diagonal on opposing sides as shown below. Place in a bowl and add BBQ, mustard, and seasonings to hot dogs. At this point, you can put in a ziploc bag to marinate in the fridge overnight, or if you’re impatient like me, go ahead and cook them now.

Slice diagonal on opposite sides of the hot dog
Cut as shown, not all the way through, but enough that the sauce can absorb in and the hot dogs don’t swell too much when cooked

Optional:

Add a pinch of brown sugar so that the sauce glazes over the hot dogs. This can be skipped, but it does help the sauce to become more of a sticky better on the hot dog.

Just a pinch of brown sugar mixed in is all it takes to help form that glaze in the air fryer.

Step 2:

Place the hot dogs in a preheated air fryer. Cook at 400 degrees for 8-10 minutes. Make sure to give it a couple of shakes/turns to ensure all sides are getting cooked evenly by the air fryer.

Going into the preheated air fryer, spaced apart for good air flow.
Coming out of the air fryer, all toasty with a nice glaze
Take your hot dog to the next level!

Step 3:

Enjoy like you would any other hot dog! We like hot dog buns, ketchup, mustard, and relish. Sometimes we add some chili and cheese to change it up. Tonight we paired the hot dogs with some chips. It was a simple, but delicious meal that came together in a pinch. Let me know below what you like on your hot dogs.
